We are just getting started…

Don’t worry, no one is behind we are just starting to move to the new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan platform. We will be migrated by the end of September so no one should worry about not being in the new platform before the old WorldCat ILL stops in December. I think the new system will be easier to use and all the basic functions you have learned about borrowing and lending will stay the same. We will still be using the WorldCat database to find items and locations.

SUBJECT: Getting ready for OCLC’s new interlibrary loan service

This is our OFFICIAL  WorldShare Interlibrary Loan message for Oklahoma from OCLC.

The WorldCat Resource Sharing interlibrary loan service your library receives is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.  The Oklahoma statewide OCLC Group Services contract will be replaced by a new service OCLC WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan, in 2013. Through the continued support of IMLS, WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan will deliver new and expanded functionality that supports evolving workflow changes such as the option to purchase needed materials instead of borrow them.

The WorldShare Platform will support the service’s interoperation with other applications, such as the display of lender costs from the OCLC Policies Directory and display of item availability from a library’s ILS.

Initial release of the new service is planned for March 2013. Between March and December 2013, the WorldCat Resource Sharing and WorldShare Interlibrary Loan services will operate in parallel. Access to WorldCat Resource Sharing is scheduled to end December 31, 2013.

With consideration for seasonal activity levels, the transition schedule for libraries currently enrolled in the Oklahoma OCLC Group Services contract has been planned for August/September 2013.

*Note: Though open migrations in the US begin in March, we strongly recommend that you wait to migrate with your group.

Kitty Pittman is working closely with OCLC to schedule training for Oklahoma library staff to support your transition to the new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan service.

 Preparations you can start now

There are some things you can do now to begin your library’s preparations for its move to WorldShare Interlibrary loan later this year. Suggestions for advance preparation are outlined on our Migration website.

 OCLC Policies Directory:

Update your interlibrary loan policy information in order to be prepared for the migration. If you have questions about updating your policies, contact OCLC Support at support@oclc.org or 1-800-848-5800.

  Stay informed

You can read more about plans for WorldShare Interlibrary Loan on the Migration website.

Watch for updates from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries staff regarding plans for migration to the new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan service, training and support for Oklahoma libraries. As we move closer to your library’s transition timeframe, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and OCLC will provide details about training topics and dates that will give your staff the information they need to begin using the new service.

WorldShare Interlibrary Loan changes COMING SOON

You have probably noticed all the announcements about the new WorldShare changes that will be coming out in March. The GOOD NEWS is we will be migrating as a group. So if you will stay tuned for more announcements, we can all go over to the new way of doing ILL together.

You might want to start out by listening to this recording session, but we will be getting back to you about the new changes and how we can successfully migrate together. So don’t worry about seting up a user account yet.

Countdown to OCLC WorldShare(tm) Interlibrary Loan: Learn about new user accounts (February 11 and 12, 2013)
This program provides information about new OCLC Services user accounts. WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan is one of the first services to use a new system for managing user accounts for OCLC services. Before you log on to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan for the first time, you must set up a new OCLC Services user account for interlibrary loan. View this recording to learn about the steps you can take to create new user accounts following release of the new interlibrary loan service.

I will send this out in our group email also.

Update to Okie Titles, expect News about New OCLC WorldShare ILL

Back from knee surgery! I’m up and about without any ambulatory devices, so feel good about my progress.

Linda Jordan just fixed a new Oklahoma Titles list, so please glance over it and  pick out titles. Her email is ljordan at oltn.odl.state.ok.us  I’ve noticed many of the older titles are getting big bucks on out-of-print lists.

Big News with more to be revealed after October 8th. I will be attending a meeting (online) with the WorldShare Interlibrary Loan Management Team. We will be discussing how to migrate all the WorldCat libraries in our group over at the same time and simplify the process.

If you want more information about the migration and the timeline, go to http://www.oclc.org/migrate-worldshare-ill/default.htm

By next year we will be on our way to the new platform.
