WorldShare Interlibrary Loan changes COMING SOON

You have probably noticed all the announcements about the new WorldShare changes that will be coming out in March. The GOOD NEWS is we will be migrating as a group. So if you will stay tuned for more announcements, we can all go over to the new way of doing ILL together.

You might want to start out by listening to this recording session, but we will be getting back to you about the new changes and how we can successfully migrate together. So don’t worry about seting up a user account yet.

Countdown to OCLC WorldShare(tm) Interlibrary Loan: Learn about new user accounts (February 11 and 12, 2013)
This program provides information about new OCLC Services user accounts. WorldShare™ Interlibrary Loan is one of the first services to use a new system for managing user accounts for OCLC services. Before you log on to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan for the first time, you must set up a new OCLC Services user account for interlibrary loan. View this recording to learn about the steps you can take to create new user accounts following release of the new interlibrary loan service.

I will send this out in our group email also.

If you are one of the libraries who have not batchloaded your holdings please contact me by January 11th! We need to get everyone batchloaded. Please put Batchload in the subject field.

Next year will be a big year for Resource Sharing as we migrate to the new platform, WorldShare. We will have lots of assistance from OCLC to migrate as a group, so please watch for upcoming emails and blogs.

Hope you had a Happy Holiday and we look forward to working with you in the New Year.

Update to Okie Titles, expect News about New OCLC WorldShare ILL

Back from knee surgery! I’m up and about without any ambulatory devices, so feel good about my progress.

Linda Jordan just fixed a new Oklahoma Titles list, so please glance over it and  pick out titles. Her email is ljordan at oltn.odl.state.ok.us  I’ve noticed many of the older titles are getting big bucks on out-of-print lists.

Big News with more to be revealed after October 8th. I will be attending a meeting (online) with the WorldShare Interlibrary Loan Management Team. We will be discussing how to migrate all the WorldCat libraries in our group over at the same time and simplify the process.

If you want more information about the migration and the timeline, go to http://www.oclc.org/migrate-worldshare-ill/default.htm

By next year we will be on our way to the new platform.

Worldcat Policy Directory Changes

This message is to let you know of OCLC Policies Directory changes scheduled for Sunday, August 5.

Automatic addition of lender fee
In May, we added the ability to search by lender fee and currency to the Policies Directory. This type of search returns a list of institutions with policies that indicate a fee of less than or equal to the amount searched. Only institutions with lender fee information in their policies are included in search results. Libraries with no lender fee value entered in their copy or loan policies are not included in search results.

On August 5, we will automatically insert a fee of 0.00 into all policies that do not include a fee. This will result in a display of “no charge” in Policies Directory displays. If you wish to represent a fee other than 0.00, you must update your Policies Directory profile with this information.

Lending policies by format
As you review and update your library’s information in the Policies Directory, you may wish to also indicate which formats you will or will not lend. This is one more way to reduce the number of requests for materials your library does not lend and prevent extending turnaround times for borrowing libraries.

Currently, if you have not specified the formats you will lend the service defaults to the setting “Any.” This means, if your library will not lend any formats you must update your policies accordingly. Two suggestions for doing this are:

1. If your policy is specific to a certain format, select that format.
2. If your policy is to loan everything except some specific formats (DVDs and VHS, for example), you can define a policy that excludes those two formats.

For additional details about managing your library’s profile in the OCLC Policies Directory, you may consult the “OCLC Policies Directory Quick Reference” or contact OCLC Support via email at support@oclc.org or by telephone at 1-800-848-5800 (USA) or 1-614-793-8682.

More Training Opportunities from OCLC

OCLC is great about offering additional training opportunities for their WCRS members. Most are FREE, if you register for one with a cost it will be your responsibility to cover the cost. But as I said most are FREE! You can register yourself, no need to go through us.

Go to Training Update:
Looks like they are covering both lending and borrowing. Some of you have asked about Patron-initiated Resource Sharing and it looks like they have a webinar on it as well. Since WiLS (Wisconsin Library Services) is giving the training please note the times are in Eastern Standard Time not Central.

Remember I will be gone from August 7th through September 15th. David Hankey is the Interlibrary Loan Office Manager and can be reached at 522-3473 or otisill at oltn.odl.state.ok.us

Updates to WorldCat Resource Sharing

OCLC is making some significant changes to Resource Sharing. Don’t worry you have plenty of time to get ready. I’m including the link to the WCRS Virtual Users Group Meeting. I know you probably don’t use Illiad, so feel free to skip all the information on it. WorldCat discovery will also change during this time.

It is IMPORTANT to be aware of these changes so you can easily transition your staff and patrons over to the new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.

A recording of the July 12 OCLC Resource Sharing Virtual User Group meeting is now available from the OCLC Web site.

You may access the recording at https://oclc.webex.com/oclc/lsr.php?AT=pb&SP=EC&rID=55434452&rKey=04a89bde7806b450.

The program included the same information shared at the Resource Sharing User Group meeting at the ALA Annual conference in June. Presenters at the meeting were:

  • Katie Birch, OCLC Director of Delivery services
  • Mindy Pozenel, OCLC Director of WorldCat Discovery
  • Genie Powell, Chief Customer Officer, Atlas Systems Incorporated

Additional information about WorldShare Interlibrary Loan is available on the migration Web site, which will updated frequently over the coming months.

Have questions give me a call, but I should warn everyone I will be out of the office August 7th through September 14th. Getting a new knee. David Hankey replaced Melecia in the Interlibrary Loan office and can be reached at 522-3473 or dhankey at oltn.odl.state.ok.us
